Hi there Mihail! Can you introduce yourself briefly to our listeners?
Hey there. My name is Mihail Petrovski, and I release under the name of Mihail P. I mostly move around 2 genres: techno & house and only recently I have emerged into breaks & dnb. So far I have released on Distant Worlds, Ferox, Verdant, Seventh Sign, Magnonic Signals, Nebulae, Propersound & Where We Met and I also self-released a bandcamp album recently called Soundtrack To A Better Place.
What’s been keeping you busy of late ?
I mostly consider myself a producer first & foremost then a DJ. But I suppose it’s a thin line between the two. Lately I’ve been heavily influenced by dnb and I’m trying to explore new genres. I’m also working on a new solo ep for an italian label.
What drove you to electronic music in the first place?
I think it was the atmosphere in the early Detroit & UK techno records and my dad’s record collection, Kraftwerk, Pink Floyd, Jean Michel Jarre, Vangelis etc. There’s a certain mystery floating around in many of those records from that era that inspire me to this day.
Name a few records or songs that had a big impact on you in your early days and why?
I would go with Kraftwerk – Man Machine & Jean Michel Jarre – Oxygene Pt. 7. When I first heard these 2 tracks, they made sense to me. It felt like I was part of their journey.
What about DJ’ing, how did you get started?
I started DJing when I was 14 or 15. There was a guy in my hometown that was throwing parties and I was designing the flyers for the events, so I’d occasionally get the chance to play some music, usually on warm up duties.
Do you have any memorable experiences to share from your early days as a DJ?
It was all exciting back then. I’d listen to everything I could get my hands on and then select what I’d play for my next gig. I think everyone’s early days in djing were defined unto one’s style. You might vary from your usual self but you can never escape from your true self.
How has your collection expanded over the years – is your approach systematic or organic?
I’m an avid fan of the 90s. Too bad I was a baby back then, but i’m trying to catch up with all the music from that era ever since. I like to think that I approach my music organically, as I spend lots of time listening to what I wanna play out or just get inspired in general. Whatever I play in my sets, know that it has been selected very carefully.
When you select records for your set, what’s your approach like?
I would usually start with some slower stuff, preferably some nice ambient intros & downtempo and take it from there. This kind of vibe eases them off easier and from my experience it opens them up to what’s to come later in the night. I also get enough time to read the room.
Do you have any good stories to share about the live shows or DJ’ing?
Every event I played or hosted has a special memory. It’s always about the people and how you make them feel. Just send them home with a smile.

What have been your most memorable record finds?
Where I live there’s zero record stores. But I do enjoy the occasional discogs finds. Vulva – Doggy Bag on Softcore Records was a recent purchase that made me really happy. Such a brilliant record. Also The Other World Collective aka Stasis and his Artificial World release on Peacefrog. Love it!
Do you have a comfort record, one you can put on that makes you feel good no matter what?
Yeah. It’s Strange Worries by Maizena released on Help Recordings in 2017. All 4 tracks contain playful melodies and intricate drum programming that always puts me in a good mood. It’s a record I always listen to from start to finish.

Tell us about your show on Timeline Music
I have a Radio Show on Timeline Music called Multiverse Sessions where I mostly play stuff that inspires me, regardless of genre. And 1 year ago I took the liberty to start inviting guests that have a unique view on music.
How did you get started and how has the show evolved?
I was part of Timeline’s listening fanbase. Most present in Andy Green’s Verdant Sessions. I was a regular guest in the chat section too, and one thing led to another & the boss from Timeline and overall a tireless human being Keith Anderson invited me for a guest mix first and then he gave me a monthly slot for my own show. I’m forever grateful for that.
My show was on hold for the last couple of months due to work overflow but I recently reset the show with a brilliant guest mix from The Selectabwoy with a 2 hours special Black Dog Tribute. The show has evolved to a point where I feel free to invite whoever I want and to give a platform to new DJs to be heard by a wider audience.
Any good stories to share from the past show?
Everyone of them has a special place in my heart. But I have to admit that the most dear ones are the ones with Paul Rimbaud from Distant Worlds where we challenge ourselves who’d come up with a better selection as he is a regular guest every fifth or tenth show.
Any plans for the coming months?
I’m trying to produce more music. Got a solo ep and a couple more various coming along nicely. I’m also trying to push myself to explore new genres everyday.
Did DJing eventually turn your attention into making music or was it always there right from the beginning?
Other Dj’s mixes turned me into production. Most notable was EstimuloShow (Timo’s mote: this!). The roster of DJ’s and overall very fine people that were on rotation back then, circa 2007-8 and now. A constant source of inspiration for me.
How have you evolved as a producer?
That’s a very hard question to answer. I lean towards perfectionism and it’s a constant struggle to be satisfied with the end result. But I like to think that I finally figured out the basics haha.
Are there any new tools or musicians or artists who have recently inspired you?
I’ve recently emerged into old dnb 94-96. Untouchable era. I’m also a huge fan of the Aarhus group, they inspire me all the time. Also, Gabriola and his Midnight Vapour mixes are a huge inspiration to me.
Out of your own releases, which do you have the strongest bond with and why is that?
My Multiverse ep on Distant Worlds. Why? Because It was my first solo ep and during the process of recording the tracks I also made a really good friend.
What does the coming 12 months hold for you in regards of releases, collaborations etc.?
So far, a solo ep and couple of various releases. As i mentioned before, I’m trying to broaden my palette of sounds so I’m looking forward to hooking up with labels outside of my comfort zone that is house & techno.
What’s your setup like and how do you work on music (process, themes, details)?
I’m 99% digital and 1% is the ghost that lives inside my computer. Music comes spontaneously to me. I could listen to some old radio recordings and get inspired. Most of the time, it’s small bits of sounds that get me going.
What’s your current favorite piece of kit?
For digital production and vst i’d say Spectrasonics Atmosphere and Bass Station
What’s your take on the current state of electronic music?
I think this covid thing will just spur new relationships in music & focus more on growing your local scene which can only be a great thing. Many artists had to reconsider their position regarding their quality control on music, so i think everyone is working hard right now on self-improvement. The future is bright.
What’s the scene like in Macedonia?
I come from a very small town in Macedonia called Vinica. So when there weren’t any parties going on I had to take the torch in my hands and do something about it. I think it’s my 8 year as a party planner.
There’s a lot of local talent, most of them living abroad now but the people that decided to stay, we are sticking together.
